Many of us are relatively young when we get married, and so are our bridesmaids. We have just graduated college, current grad students, or fresh into the working world... And so are our bridesmaids. I am getting married in two months, and it was easy to decide that i would both choose and pay for my bridesmaids' dresses. Though i understand it to be customary and therefore *not* inappropriate, having my bridesmaids pay for dresses at my request seemed the epitome of bridezilla selfishness. Statistically speaking, bridesmaids are most often at a time in their lives when income is very low, and to ask my dearest friends to fork over $100-$200 for a dress they would realistically speaking NEVER wear again.... I just couldn't do it.

So, i bought the bridesmaid dresses. It was a no brainer for me. Customs should never mean more than caring for my dearest of friends, and i am enjoying planning for my upcoming wedding much more knowing that I haven't put undue financial pressure on those rallying to support and cheer me on.
